July Madness

Are your brackets filled out yet? Well get ready because the draw has been released! Ok, so maybe its not exactly March Madness...but the city is alive with anticipation. After the last weekend of play, our team was in a close tie with a few other teams. We could have finished 3rd, 4th, 5th, or 6th place with the outcome of the last game of the season. We defeated Rockingham to pick up our 18th win of the season, finishing 18-8 for the year. The bracket went in our favor & because of points and some head to head wins, we locked up the 3rd place spot. This is the highest the team has finished in its history, and 18 wins is the most they have ever had as well. So that is definitely something pretty cool to be a small part of.

Unfortunately Marcus had to head home early, and will not be playing in the playoffs because of some commitments back home. This obviously hurts because we are losing 20+ points a game in our top scorer. However, our other guard Tony has been shooting well, and we will have two strong post players for our run. Like I stated before, the first & second round is the best of three games. The first game is played at the away team (or worse seed), then you play two games at home (higher seed) if needed. I dont like the set up because if you lose the first game away, then its more pressure to win the next two, even though they are both at home. Here is the bracket & a little bit of information from the SBL website:

1 Lakeside Lightning 22-4 vs. 8 Perth Redbacks 11-15

The Men's competition see's all four game ones on Saturday night with the Perth Redbacks hosting the Lakeside Lightning first at 7:30pm. While at 1 v 8 both teams have had a victory in 2009 with the 11-15 Redbacks going down 120-85 in Round 1 yet they prevailed 107-98 in Round 14 over the 22-4 Lightning.

2 Goldfield Giants 21-5 vs. Kalamunda Eastern Suns 11-15

Last off the block is the reigning champions who are on the road at 8:30pm to the new kids on the block, the Kalamunda Eastern Suns. The 21-5 second placed Giants are on a roll recently with a 6 game winning streak. The 11-15 Eastern Suns have not defeated the Giants in 2009, going down 108-85 in Round 3 and again in Round 15, 95-84.

3 Wanneroo Wolves 18-8 vs. Perry Lakes Hawks 17-9

The sixth placed Perry Lakes Hawks (17-9) will tackle the third placed Wanneroo Wolves (18-8) at 8:00pm. The Hawks prevailed in Round 3 103-92 but the Wolves took out the Round 13 clash 97-86.

4 Geraldton Buccs 18-8 vs. Cockburn Cougars 18-8

Also on Saturday at 7:30pm is the Cockburn Cougars (18-8) doing battle with the Geraldton Buccaneers (18-8). The fourth place Buccs prevailed on the weekend 107-88 and in Round 8 the Buccs also won 107-83.

In one of the tightest finishes to an SBL season ever, the finals action is expected to be just as close. All of the quarter final match ups could easily go to three games giving basketball fans the most exciting action they could possibly get. All fans are urged to get down and support their teams with many great teams having just two weeks of their season left!

That information was taken from the website & it is probably a very true statement. Anyone of these teams could end up winning it all. The top 6 teams in the tournament are about as equal as it gets, so hopefully we can prevail. The game is this Saturday with game #2 being next Saturday. If game 3 is needed, it will be played on Sunday at noon. Unfortunately I might not be going to church that day!

Hope this helps out a little bit! Marcus should be rolling into CC now, so hopefully it will be nice to see everyone! I wont be too far behind & look forward to seeing family & friends. However, there are still a few things I have left to do here ;-)

This message especially goes out to Mark Green who told me I needed to update my blog!! Ha-ha.

M.I.A? If you call MIA doing lots of awesome activities...then guilty!

Basketball Game
Best Picture Ever Maybe?

I decided that since this athletic dude was going to block my shot, I'd shot fake and throw it to Marcus lol.

Post-Game Photo

Dinner with the Chegs at the Revolving Restuarant

Sorry folks for being on a couple week break. But activities has filled my days and by the time I come to the computer, its usually late at night. So I will not waste anytime and update on what has been going on in the last few weeks with us.

As I was finishing up work one day, a friend of mine comes to the back and says, "Hey Scott, some girl is here to see you, and she claims to be your girlfriend." Now, last time I checked I didnt have a girlfriend when I left the states...and from what I can remember, I hadnt picked one up here in Australia. So...I hurried out to the front to see my beautiful sister come around the corner! Talk about a speechless! I couldnt believe it. Marcus came around the corner about 5 minutes later and saw her as well. We were both a little bit stunned, but definitely excited to see her! What sucked was I had an appointment with a younger player at the stadium. So I left Marcus and Nikki to go up north for a bit. After about 45 minutes I decided that its not everyday a family member is coming to see me, so I cancelled the rest of my schedule and appointments the rest of the week. When I got back about 6 I wasnt surprised to see Nikki about passed out on the couch. Our friend Natalie's host family (The Chegs) were gracious enough to let us all stay at their place the entire week! What great people by the way! Let the activities begin!

There were so many things that I wanted to have everyone experience here in Australia. So you could probably say I got a little carried away with trying to do EVERYTHING possible in about 5 days! We started out by showing Nikki around the city, along with some of the beautiful beaches. The weather is still around mid 70's during the day, so I really think she enjoyed the weather. We took her shopping in the city and had her tag along to practice (which she definitely fell asleep at by the way!). And no they are not boring, I just dont think the plane ride wore off yet.

On Friday night the Chegs decided to take us all out to a beautiful restuarant. It was on the 30+ floor of a building downtown. We knew this place was going to be nice, so we decided to dress up a little bit. But when I say dress up a little bit I mean jeans and button up long sleeve shirt. Marcus just so happened to be rockin his flannel, and Nat and Nikki just wore very casual clothing. But giving the fact that I havent worn anything but basketball clothes for the past 4 months, this was dressing up! To our surprise, the elevator opened up to the NICEST restuarant I have been to. As the doors seperate, there everyone sits in black dresses and full suit outfits. Immediately I was embarrassed and wanted to go to the nearest Man 2 Man store to get fitted for a tux. Somehow we were able to get in looking as if we just got out of a carnival, and enjoyed the 32nd story revolving floor looking across Perth at night. It was absolutely gorgeous. Not to mention it costed 80$ per person to eat there! Personally I think it was paying for the view, no so much the food! lol.

Saturday night was our game, which we happened to lose! After winning 9 games in a row and being the hottest team in the league, Nikki just so happened to show up and ruin it for us :-/ haha. Actually you dont realize how nice it was to see someone like that in the crowd! It was a close game but in the end we werent able to pull it off. Needless to say Nikki is not allowed to come to anymore games here in Australia :-) And I think Natalie is also banned! That poor girl has been to 4 of our games and we have lost all 4 of those games! She thinks shes bad luck but I tend to disagree.

Sunday we went to a cool Jazz Club that opened up in the city. I wanted to go to it since I got here, but it was cool to experience it with sis. We had a lot of fun and also had some great conversations! Monday was a treat as well. We decided to get up early in the morning and drive down to Margaret River (a fancy place where people go to get away from Perth). It was about a 2 1/2 hr drive, but well worth it. We went to about 5-6 wineries, explored a cave (which I had no idea would be so freezing!), went the to most beautiful beach I have seen, ate all the free chocolate & cheese at the little factory shops, and just had a great time. We left about 5 and got home in time for the Chegs to fix yet another great dinner! I swear that their house is also my favorite restuarant!

Ever since Nikki got here that last Wednesday, all she had been talking about was seeing and petting a damn kangaroo. I dont think she understood that they arent exactly friendly, but she was still convinced that she was going to do it. So on Tuesday we went to the Perth Zoo. Now I havent been to the Zoo since I was like 8, but I have to say we had an AWESOME time. We saw Koalas, Penguins, Rhinos, Zebras, Chimps, Oragutans (Orange U-tans), tree rat things, Dingos, Elephants, and sure enough Kangaroos. And go figure, Nikki got her wish. One of the Roos had jumped the rope and decided to lay down right in the middle of the walkway. We all got pictures and were able to pet it. It was a pretty cool experience. That night Nikki's flight flew out about midnight, so we took her there to say goodbye. It was a great week and a wonderful surprise, I just wish we would have had another week or ten! It seemed like it absolutely flew by. I miss you already sista!

As for an update on basketball, we are now 13-6 and closing down on the season. The crowds have been really good recently and Marcus and I are having a lot of fun. In fact, last game Marcus hit about 4 shots in a row (including a huge backcut) to finish out the game. With 10 seconds to go up 1 point, he stole the ball and took it in for the win. The place went absolutely CRAZY! It was the first time I felt like I was back home playing in front of Grace or CC crowds. It was awesome! In a month we are having a camp for the kids that Marcus and I are running. As far as everything else, just enjoying the sun and missing everyone back home! Only about 6 weeks left, I cannot believe it has gone so fast! Enjoy the pics!

I cant dance...I cant talk...only thing about me is the way I walk!

Saturday mornings are usually my favorite day of the week. Here, let me take you through a day in the life shall we? We always have morning shoot around up at the stadium about 9 am. Since I am not used to waking up much before 10 everyday, you can imagine the struggle.

9:00 AM - Shoot around is always pretty simple, with a couple shooting games and a walk through of our opponent for the night. During this time there is younger basketball leagues being played on the other 3 courts. The kids are somewhere between 8-12 years old, so afterwards we always hand out posters, play some games with them, sign autographs, and just have interaction with them to get them excited about the game.

10:30 AM - Breakfast at Mackers (or McDonalds for your normal American people ha). I usually like to do this alone, you know...get a little Scott time. I hang out with myself, laugh at my always entertaining jokes and one liners, but mostly prepare for tonights ball game. Today however a younger teammate wanted to come along, so it was nice for someone else to laugh at my jokes for a change.

11:15 Zest Workout Facility. Zest is a large physical fitness center and its where Marcus and I go to lift, along with getting recovery treatment. This is why I wake up with a smile every Saturday morning! I go up to the weight room first to just do a routine workout. Today was much more entertaining than usually because the "Womens Dance Workout Team" was in the side during there stuff. Now I have to tell you, if you actually sit and watch these women, it will completely brighten your day. The instructor is a Black (very fit) American lady who can move like you wouldnt believe. She's smooth, silky, and just has it working. But what is great to watch are the 30 women (ranging from 20 years old to about 60 years old) follow her routine. There were about 3 ladies correctly following the instructor, the rest however I think were trying to mix in some of their own stuff. A few ladies just give up after a while and sit down lol. Its an advanced class so the lady is unbelievable...therefore I cant make fun of these girls cuz I'd be just as bad. Note to self: The Jitterbug is not a dance move anymore. Louise the all purple wearing lady needs to go ahead and keep that dance move back in the 80's.

After lifting I head down to loosen up in the pool. After during my pool workout, the enjoyment begins. A massage followed by sitting in the massive sauna for an hour does the trick! Man I love this job!

1:00 PM - Usually head across the street to the library. I always have a little time to kill, therefore I like to stop in and sit down, and try to read some. However, I am so relaxed that I almost always end up drifting away on the couch. Marian the Librarian (her name is Sue but I call her this anyway and she loves it) usually gives me a hard time.

2:00 PM - Grab some lunch then head over to Tony's house. Tony is a teammate of ours who has played in the league for about 12 years now. He's a great guy who has really been helpful to both of us. We head out to the golf course and get a round of 9 in.

4:30 PM - Pregame nap! Throw in a movie and we are all out like fat kids in dodge ball!

6:30 PM - Pregame meal. Tony's wife Sarah is a great cook, and she always hooks us up with some Pasta and other stuff. Shes great!

7:15 PM - Head off to the game. Get a half hour shoot around is a must. I listen to some music and just focus on what is ahead. After this is over I head into the training room to get my legs rubbed down, and off to the dressing room.

8:30 PM - Tip off. Now I would be lying if I said that its not weird to hear another National Anthem play before a game...but its weird. Where's my stars and stripes? The best thing about the Australian Anthem is that its like 30 seconds long. I think I know the words by now though, I'm getting pretty good.

Our game tonight we captured our 7th win in a row. We are the hottest team in the league right now and are getting more confident every game. Tonights team was one of the weaker teams...so we both actually sat out most of the 4th quarter. These type of games arent as enjoyable. Sometimes they are nice but most of the time they arent. 10-4 is our record and it doesnt look like we will be slowing down anytime soon! Hope all is well back home...by the way, its still 80 degrees here ;-)

Just heard Matt and Anna are having a baby! Uncle Scott has a nice ring to it :-)

Summertime is finally here...that old ball park man is back in gear!

Hello all! Hope everyone is doing great! A quick update on the games. Last week we played another top ranked team and continued our dominance! We have now won our last four games and dont look to be slowing down. On paper we look almost unbeatable. Marcus and I are the imports who play the backcourt. Our 3 is a veteran role player who has played for about 10 years now. And our 4 and 5 man are both National League players. In fact, our new 4 man play college ball at Old Dominion, and was on the Australian National team. He is about a 6'10 shooting guard. So needless to say, I have a lot of options to pass to! Dont worry though, I am still planning on shooting the thing once in a while. This weekend we have a double header against two of the weaker teams in the league, so hopefully we come out and smash them both.

Continuing on with basketball, congrats to Matt on becoming the new head coach at Mt. Vernon Naz in Ohio. Its a great program that is known for making the NAIA national tournament year in and year out. He will do great things!

Walking through the park tonight I decided to grab a seat on a bench and enjoy my chinese. Already flustered because of my struggling translation with the lady at the restuarant, I took out my Sweet and Sour Chicken and began to enjoy. Honestly, I'm not sure how to say "I DONT WANT WHITE RICE AND VEGGIES" in Mandarin Chinese, but I think I did a decent job of my hand waving, snarling, and continuous head shaking in the no direction. Honestly, we dont need to speak the same language for me to point through a tiny glass window! Anyway, as I say down to enjoy, the moonlight was really bright, illuminating (thats right mom, college did me well!) the entire park. I put in my Ipod and began to listen to some Mellencamp. All of a sudden, I was transformed back into summer mode. I could picture being on the lake with the boys, doing morning workouts at CC, working at the Park Dept., fishing, going to baseball games, 4th of July fireworks, etc....

Its amazing how a simple song can take you back to a time and place in your life. It really is the best vacation you can take! So therefore, this post is all about Summer Time Songs. I am leaving you with a top ten list of my favorite summertime songs. Then maybe a couple extra. If you dont like it or disagree, who cares! haha. Make your own list :-) But you can be sure that this is what I will be jamming in about a month until August!

2. Stand By Me- Ben E. King
3. Wild Nights- Van Morrison
4. Summer of 69- Bryan Adams
5. Tom Petty- Mary Jane
6. Brown Eyed Girl- Van Morrison

8. Jack & Diane/Aint Even Done with the Night- Mellencamp
9. I Get Around- Beach Boys
10. Dancing in the Moonlight- King Harvest

We all airball once in a while!

Sorry its been a while since my last post. I need to do a much better job of following up and keeping everyone informed on what has been going on. I promise I will do a better job! :-)
I want to share about the last 3 ball games we have had. Last weekend, after a disappointing loss at home, we traveled 4 hours north to Geraldton. They were currently the number one ranked team in our division at 7-1 and playing very well. The team that we got hammered by just a game before at home, lost to Geraldton a week earlier by 25. So I knew we had our hands full. Now, if you are an athlete than I think you can relate to what I am going to say next. Do you ever get those feelings in the games that everything is going to be fine? Maybe the game starts our bad and people are worried, but inside you just feel at ease? This was one of those games for me. In front of a sold out crowd, we began the game down 15-0. I know right? But the thing about it was, I was happy with what we were getting. I thought our offense was smooth, we were getting great looks, and they were hitting tough shots. I told the guys in the huddle, just relax and get it back one possession at a time. Sure enough thats exactly what we did. We cut the lead to two by halftime, and in the second half outscored them easily and ran away with a 15 point win. It was the first time the club has won in Geraldton since 1998, so I felt really good about that. Needless to say the game was very interesting. Before it started I told a teammate of mine that I cannot remember the last time I actually airballed a shot in a game. Whoops, bad timing.

Not only did I airball once, oh but I did it twice. I said earlier in my posts how the fans love to give the imports a hard time, oh man. Haha lets just say I was hearing it alright! The funny thing was I wasnt embarrassed at all. My team was winning and I was playing really well, besides though two pull up jumpers lol. The best part of the game though was in the 3rd quarter. I'm glad I decided to wait until I'm overseas to have the best play of my career. I wish you would have seen it. We were pressing full court and my teammate knocked the ball loose from the ball carrier. The ball was sliding in a hurry out of bounds, so I took off. Now picture this. The floor was soooo humid, so it was already slippery enough (which was good because this would have been painful if it wasnt). My teammates fell over to the ground as well as the guard he took it from...I jumped over both of them chased the ball to the sideline. Suddenly everything stopped. It was like time froze. In my head all I could think was, "seriously, coach is going to bitch at me if I dont at least hustle after this...oh well make it look interesting Scott." I jumped from just passed the free throw elbow into a head first dive. Arms stretched out I hit the ground and like a slip and slide shot towards the sideline. To my surprize I was actually gaining on the ball. Right before it went out of bounds I scooped it (still sliding) and threw it over my left shoulder as hard as I could. I smashed into the wall shoulder first and cut my eye. As I look over my shoulder the ball somehow hit off my teammates foot, popped straight into the air into my big guys hands, who shot it, made it, and got fouled. The whole place stood up and clapped haha. I was like, "There is no way that just happened." My sweat mark on the floor was 20+ feet long! My players surrounded me and you would have thought I just hit a game winner. I looked in the crowd and the front row was bowing over hahaha! One of their players even walks up and congratulated me! I thought it was so funny. God decided to humble me however on the very next play when I airballed a ten foot jumpshot. Oh well, you win some you lose some!

We picked up two more wins this weekend and moved into 5th place outta 14. We are the hottest team in the league right now and Marcus is back playing. We really have a shot to do a lot of damage from here on out. We have the toughest first round schedule, followed by the easiest second half. We have 3 more games to go before the break so if we can manage a couple more wins, we will be sitting pretty for the next half of the season.

Aside from ball, everything is also going great! We just got back from having wine and cigars with a friend of ours in the park. Cigars probably arent the best choice, but hey its my birthday tomorrow! April came and went sooooo fast! To think we are about halfway done with our trip is unbelievable! In just about 3 months we will be flying home! Crazy to think. Summertime is coming and I hope this message finds everyone in good spirits!

Want to give a shout out to Mr. & Mrs. Leaf! Its been about 4+ years since we have gone this long without seeing you guys and Marcus and I just wanted to say that we missed you guys. We hope you are doing well and enjoying the change of weather! When we get home we want to have dinner and show you all the pictures! Plus hopefully you enjoy Wolves basketball gear ;-)

Lonesome Athlete

The Gym

Before I begin my story, I have to fill everyone in on what Marcus and I have been doing. I think I have made it very obvious that basketball is much more "laid back" in the land down under. With practice only twice a week, and games on the weekends, we both have TONS of time to use. So....we decided that we would get a part time job. Nothing big, just something to do for a couple hours a day, and put a little extra cash in our pockets to allow us to do some cool things while we are here. One of the players on our team helped get us a job at a telephone shop downtown. We are demonstrators. So all we do is from 11-3 each day we walked around and show people the internet on our model phones. However, most people really dont care, all they want to do is buy a phone, upgrade it, or complain about a problem. Since I cannot answer any of those questions, I just pass them right along to the rest of the staff. Today for example I spent my entire 4 hour working day checking email and watching Hall & Oates videos on youtube. Seriously, if I could be in any band back in the day it would be a toss up between the E Street Band, Traveling Wilburys, and Hall & Oates. Unfortunately the Hall & Oates name would cause a problem and we'd have to come up with something clever. Ok getting off point. So I am working the other day at the store and I look at to see a man dressed head to toe in an army outfit having a conversation....with himself. Since it is an outdoor mall, there are thousands of people walking around. And sure enough, this man is sitting at a table talking, outloud, to absolutely no one. At first I thought it was just strange. Then I thought it was really strange. I asked one of the other employees about it and she told me that he is there all the time. But the interesting day continued. After staring at the ex Vietnam Soldier who talks to himself for about an hour I then turned my attention elsewhere. There were drums, and horns, and shouting in the street. I thought cool, a parade. Nope, not even close, Dressed in bright orange shirts, with massive signs saying, "Help Support Zambia" and "Stop our government." Now...I'm no geography major...wait, yes I am. For those who dont know Zambia is NO where near Australia for one and two, I hardly have a feeling that Australian people are in any direct contact with Zambia. I could be wrong, but...nope they dont. I was actually going to join in because I have always wanted to do something like that. But when I put two and two together, it added up to 5. And that wasnt right. So I passed. With about an hour left to go in my already eventful 4 hour shift, it only got better. I approached a middle aged woman to ask her if she needed any help. She was an aboriginal lady with a beautiful long dress and about 7 total teeth. Apparently in her language, asking if she needs anything implies that we are now best friends and she is open to talk about her ENTIRE life. For the next 28 minutes (seriously, I watched the clock) she told me something about how her husband left in 1989, she has 3 kids who apparently have the same name, she goes clubbin (not dancing!) for the giant lizards in the bush, and she thinks I smell like fresh ground pepper. At some point I thought she was going to club me and put me across her fire. But all the story seemed choppy because I just couldnt stop staring at her teeth. Seriously, if I colored mine with permanant marker, didnt brush for 3 months, and played football without a helmet, they still find a way to edge out hers. I politely ended the coversation when it was time for me to leave and she said, "Gimme ur phone so I ring." I got what she meant. But there is no way on here I was giving Madam Bush Woman my number. Ah just another day in the life of S. Moore.

So here is the real message for today. Now do not misinterpret this message. I want everyone to know how much fun we both are having here. And honestly, I do believe that this is where God wants me to be. But something hit home the other week and I have to share it, because I think a lot of people will understand where I am coming from. No before I begin, please leave your pity and sorrow at the door, cuz I dont want any part of it! This is not why I am writing this message! Alright. Here we go. The other week we had a double header, one game on Friday and one game on Saturday against two tough teams. Coach pulled me aside on Friday night and told me that in order for us to win, I needed to lead this team. The first half begins and we just never really get into a rythem. At halftime we are down to our rivals by a couple points. I didnt play well the first half, so I decided to make my presence known. I huddled the team together before we began the 2nd half and gave them somewhat more than an earful. Man did something hit home. The next 24 minutes were absolutely beatiful. I dont think I have played a better half of basketball in my life. The team was rolling and so was I. Everytime our team got the ball, it was in my hands and up the floor in a flash. I felt great, quick, and made passes that would have made Pistol Pete roll over in his grave. I got to the basket whenever I wanted, and finished almost every shot I took. After the game was over, I just felt great about our teams performance and had that feeling in my stomach that we could be scary good. Here is what is different. After the game we shake hands with the other team and head into the locker room. Coach says a few words, we congratulated each other, hit the showers, got dressed and made our way back onto the court. This was always one of my favorite times as a player. Whether a great game or bad game, I always enjoyed the presence of my family and friends after a game. Just something about it that makes it worth while. Hearing your friends share memories with you, grandma giving you kisses saying you were great (whether you sucked or not), hearing dad say, "You shoulda hit your free throw in the second quarter" (yeah thanks dad), and so on. Having Coach grab your shoulder and whisper in your ear, "Way to play kid. Keep leading this team." Then exiting with your friends to have an after game meal and laugh. Thats what its all about. Not the time between the lines, but outside.

As I exit the locker room I made the turn for the gym. A reporter stopped to do a quick interview. As I continued I got an occasional great game Scott, or nice job American from a few parents or fans. Then I sat my bag down, and plopped on the bleachers tired, but smiling. Then I looked around. Marcus wasnt there because he injured his eye, so he was at home. But I saw the players come out and embrace their families. Hugs were shared, kisses were exchanged, and laughter filled with area. Friends met up with the players and some of the girlfriends/wives were hanging on their shoulders. Thats when my stomach went empty. I had just played the best half of basketball in my entire life, and I was all alone. Not a sad moment, but a different one I think. You dont realize how important those times are, until you dont have them. I'm doing something I have always dreamed about. I am playing professional basketball. I'm doing what others can only dream about doing. I get emails from players everyday that ask me, "How do I do what you and Marcus are doing, what did you guys do to get there?" And you know what, basketball is not what I love. Basketball is just something that brought us all together. Its something that I could do, that brought joy to others. Its just different when you dont have the people you love to share it with. I am glad that Marcus is here, but on a personal level I believe this will be the final time we play competitively TOGETHER. Sure there will be alumni games, and leagues, and this and that.

I do want to keep doing this. I love to travel and to see this world. And I want to do it while I can. So if the opportunity came, yes I would do it once again. I just wanted to share with everyone WHY this game means so much to us. I truly believe that I do it not for myself, as much as I do it for the people I love. So in a word, thank you to everyone. Thanks to mom and dad for never missing a game. I used to HATE having to hear dad tell me something after a game. Now after games he's the first one I want to talk to. Some kids would kill to have their parents come to one game. I would be worried if mine werent at one game. Nikki and Matt for making efforts when it meant cancelling their own plans and for making it so easy for both of us. Grandma and Grandpa for always being there to tell us how great we were, even though we may not of had a great game. Uncle Jerry for always having the right thing to say before or after. Mikey for being a great friend and going out of his way for us. And all of our friends that put basketball in perspective. You are what it is all about! We love you guys and miss everyone!

On a more cheerful note I met a girl whose parents happen to be richy rich and they own like 4 planes. Yeah, her dad is def taking Marcus and I up in one and letting us fly it! I thought I'd finish on a less teary ending!

Easter

Thursday night we had our 7th game of the season. It was only the 2nd home game, as we have been on the road for the last 5 games. Therefore there was a large crowd and they the place was really rocking at the start of the game. Unfortunately the game did not go so well lol. It just so happened that we couldnt have played worse on offense, and they hit every shot they took it seemed like. To make things worse, most of those shots were 3's! I believe they were like 21-32 from behind the 3 point line. Yeah, not too shabby. Plus our 7 points we put up in the 3rd quarter didnt exactly give us the boost we needed haha. Needless to say, it was an ugly game and we lost by 30+. Guess thats why we play 26 games and not one haha.

We have the rest of the weekend off for Easter break, and most of the people just spend time with their families. Dean and Lisa decided they wanted to throw a Passover Dinner which was awesome! I have never experienced a Jewish Passover Dinner, and I have to say that it was a great time. There were about 16 of us or so and it was so enjoyable! Plus, you cant go wrong with free food, and a LOT of it. And yes I did contribute! I brought some soft drinks ;-)

We moved into a new place in the city and its a blast. Living on the beach was nice, but its so much easier to get around here. We are minutes away from grocery stores, food joints, shopping mall, and a bunch of sidewalk shops. There is also a massive park right across the road where Marcus and I can throw the baseball around. Its funny cuz when people walk by, some are confused what we are doing. I dont think they watch much baseball around these parts! We have so much free time that we decided to go ahead and get a part time job while we are here. We have a chance to get with a golf course here, but since it is so far from the city, we are going to wait for a little bit with that. Instead we got in with a Telephone company right downtown (go figure right?) My Grandpa worked for the telephone company, my dad does now, and now his boys can follow in his footsteps! Ha well kinda. Its awesome though. All we do is go around and show people the new features on cellphones. The new features on the high speed internet and tv. We are not supposed to know or answer any questions about the phones or plans, just direct them to someone else if they asks us. So yes, all I am supposed to do is show the internet to people. However, most people just need simple questions answered about their phones, therefore I cannot help them. So today, I talked to 2, thats right 2 people in four hours. Boring? I dont think so. I got a full day of music videos, checking and sending emails, looking up scores on Espn, and even some television. Not to mention we roll in 25 bucks an hr. Thats not an exaggeration...25 bucks an hr to play with the internet on phones and make friends lol. I met a guy from Malaysia today who said he would show me around the country if I ever wanted to visit. My first day I met 2 German girls who were trying to teach me some German words (its not easy ha). So our days are filled up pretty much now until the weekend.

Our next game is on Friday 4 hrs away in a country town called Geraldton. We spend the night up there afterwards so it should be a good time. Hope everyone is doing well and has a great Easter!

A more serious post

Kids at the clinic Marcus and I put on. We usually do about 2 clinics a week with about 100 or so kids each time. They are funny but drive me crazy! They are more interested in hearing us talk than teach then basketball.

Well, a thought came across me today so I thought I would share it with you. I knew that playing basketball would be much different now than it ever would before, mostly because of the relationships I had with my teammates. I mean Briggs, Hughie, Shives, Sheck, KJ, Kais, Mike, Gaff, and so on will always be my teammates. I look at them as if they are "my guys." Guys that I would do anything for anytime. Basketball was just something we had in common that brought us all together. Here, it is much different. I have Marcus, then 10 other guys who I have known for no more than 6 weeks. But something happened in the last game that made me realize why I love this game. All game long this opposing player was giving me shot after shot in the chest as I would cut or get ready to come off a screen. And he would do it almost perfectly so the refs couldnt see. Now usually I am a fairly level headed player and it takes a bit to fire me up, but this guy was none the less started to piss me off. With about 5 minutes to go he gave me another shot in the stomach and I lost my air...it just so happened to be a bad time to lose air as well because I was ready to call for a sub. I hit the ground with one knee and searched for any oxygen I could get back. Coach saw it and absolutely went off! Words were exchanged by the two of us which I wont include in the blog. They went something like "Gosh darnit buddy, now if you dont stop throwing those elbows I'm going to get really really upset." Ok it wasnt quite like that but you get the idea. Therefore, being a great sportsman and showing great character (not), the next play I went for a steal and "accidentally" ran through him in the process. (Parents please keep this message away from your children haha!) The ref obviously called a foul and before I could turn around the player was just about to swing at me. Bracing myself to have my first overseas rumble, I got ready to take a shot...but before I knew what happened one of my teammates came out of nowhere and placed this guy on the ground.

Players then circled up and some words where thrown around but no further damage was caused. My wing man then points at the guy and says, "If you touch my point guard again I'm gonna....." fill in the rest yourself. But after all this crap that happened, I remember sitting in the locker room and thinking wow. My teammates had my back. They were willing to put themselves into my "battle" in order to look out for me. The jersey that we were wearing was the same jersey, which put us on the same team. They have known me for less than two months but are willing to back me up. Although this was something stupid, it did make me realize how important this is. There is a level of respect one has for another teammate, and its great to know that I have theirs. So although they may not be "my guys" who I previously stated above, they are my teammates who I go to battle with. I think this is going to be a great season just because of that!

Who doesn't love meeting new people

Gregory
Emilio

Jesse

Who doesn’t like a list right? After watching a program of the top fifty 80’s songs on tv the other day, I decided that lists are 1.) Interesting and 2.) Provide opinionated people like myself a chance to say things like, “You’re right Scott. I also think Steve Perry’s ‘Oh Sherrie’ should have been much higher on the list.” Or, “Even though I enjoy Hall & Oates as much as the next person Scott, I don’t think they should be rated as high as you have them on your list.” So this section is all about lists. Enjoy!

Top 3 Interesting People I have met in Australia

#1 Jesse (The Rollin Stone Grandma)
I met Jesse while waiting on my bus at the Sterling Station. She is around 90 years old and smells a bit like beef stew. I was sittin on a bench by myself, waiting for my bus when she sits down next to me and says, “Excuuuuuuse me dear, would you be a kind bloke and lift this bench up and pull it into the sunlight.” I politely told her, “I’d love to ma’am but it’s cemented into the ground.” She smiles and says, “Not strong enough eh? That’s ok I could use some shade anyway.” Not strong enough!? Ok…not only was this thing cemented into the ground, but it would have taken the duo of Hulk Hogan and Ryan Briggs to lift this thing! She sits down and continues to tell me how I was nice and that society is no good anymore. Back when she was a girl (which happened to be 1929) people were more relaxed and living was easy. Now things are too fast and people are mean! Before I could reply she got up and began to swing at a rock on the ground with her cane, as if she was golfing. She did this for a good 50 yards!!! 10 Minutes later she comes back and says she got 4 hole in ones! Wow…I am speechless.

#2 Emilio (The Iranian power lifter who needs to invest in longer shorts)
If ‘Tool” was actually a describing word you could use on a person who was oblivious to life, then this guy would be the Master Tool. Emilio lifts at the same gym as Marcus and I, and he is quite the character. First off he is much bigger than any man should ever want to be. I’m guessin if you told him to touch his hands behind his back he would explain to you that it is impossible! Believe it or not Emilio it can be done! In fact it’s very easy. Emilio works out in very big V-Neck jerseys, and each time his shorts get an inch shorter. I’m still not sure why he doesn’t just go by normal size shorts, this guys thighs are like Chris Farley’s waste. I am in pain lookin at him because I don’t think they are getting any circulation! If he keeps it up Emilio is going to be showing off his twig and berries to the population of Perth! And I think we could all do without!

#3 Gregory (The Bus Boy)
This kid might be my favorite. I see him almost everyday because he gets on the train at Sterling as well. This picture of him says it all. He carries around a book bag that is filled with nothing but maps of bus lines and train schedules. I have seriously gone to him to ask a time on a regular basis. I think he has most of them memorized now. Gregory, as intelligent as his is, does however need to find a good dentist in town. I think he thinks receiving plaque is a good thing!

Top 3 Sayings I have heard repeatedly

#1 Scutt, get your oss to tha baseline mate!
This would be said by my coach, almost every practice. I’m still not quite sure what oss means but I’m starting to get somewhat of an idea. And believe it or not, my name doesn’t have a U in it.

#2 Yeah mate, he’s a good bloke.
Wasn’t sure what bloke was at first, in fact, I thought someone was making fun of me when I first heard this. What did you just call me?

#3 Are you keen?
This has probably been said to me ten thousand times so far! I mean I know what it means, but it has been said so much, I am starting to say it! Which annoys me more than you can imagine. Hey Marc, you keen to go get something to eat? Haha he hates it too. Usually I just say it to piss him off.

Top 3 Worst Shows on tv

#1 Larry the Lawnmower
Hands down worst show I have ever seen. So bad in fact I still watch. It’s a kids show about a lawnmower who bosses a rake, shovel, and hose around to do yard work. Not only does it suck, but Larry can be a real pain in the oss if you know what I mean!

#2 Any News channel
The news hear is not interesting, one because I feel like I have no idea what going on in the world, and two because it is so sporadic. It comes off and on throughout the day, and I don’t think there is much set up involved. You know, I’m used to seeing headlines, then weather, then sports, and maybe entertainment. Here there is zero format.

#3 Ready Steady Cook
Ok, I will agree there are some pretty good cooking shows on once in a while. I mean come on, who doesn’t like Emeral? But on this show they pick two people from the audience and pair them each up with a professional chef. Then they have a 20 minute competition on who can make a better dish with the ingredients they have. Sounds decent right? Well it would be if they didn’t have a used car salesman as the host who will not stop talking. I just wanna watch food and see what kind of things they are making…but this guy really dislikes silence! Plus he is 40 and always asks the girls if they are with anyone. Its somewhat creepy.

Top 3 Things I have seen here so far

#1 Outdoor Cinema
Very cool, very simple. In the park, at dusk, watching a great movie while its 75 degrees. Not much to it but a cool experience.

#2 The packed gymnasiums
Small gyms + lots of people = extremely loud! It’s a cool atmosphere. It’s very loud and trust me, they know who the Americans are. They are much tougher on us than our other players but afterwards they all are nice and ask plenty of questions. Home games though are the best because you don’t get any of the yelling, only loud cheering. I’m not sure who she is but I have an elder lady that has a voice like a lion! She is the only one I hear throughout the game and she seems to like saying my name…It still rings in my ear days later.

#3 Snorkeling in the Reef
The reef is better out on Rottnest Island, but we are doing that here in a couple weeks. However, snorkeling around the area is still a blast! You are surrounded by hundreds of fish while you swim in and underneath large coral rocks. The colors are unexplainable.

Receiving votes: Kangaroos on the golf course…they are all over!

Top 3 Different than in America things

#1 After each game there is an MVP giving out for a player on each team. Yes that’s right, they give an award after every game. The gift is…a 6 pack of beer! Congrats, you played well here’s a 6 pack of Corona! Its so weird. You all stand around after the game is over whether you lost or not, and the home coach gives away his game MVP’s. I don’t see Coach K putting this idea into play anytime soon!

#2 That’s what I love about Sundays…back home in good ole American Sundays are a family favorite. Church, lunch, maybe some bbq’s in the back yard. Relaxing, watching football, baseball, or a final to a major golf tournament. All the stores are shut down (besides Wal-Mart of course). Here in Australia, not so much. Sunday Session is what it is called and here is what happens. Families wake up at around 10 am, head to the beach for a surf and a picnic in the park, then hit the pubs. The only thing that is really open on Sundays are the pubs. And they are open LATE! Drinking is seriously a way of life here. It’s just different.

#3 Peeing on the wall.
Yep you heard correctly. There are very few urinals on the wall. Instead there is an entire wall that you just walk up to and pee on. It’s quite interesting and a lot easier to be honest. Then when you walk away, water trickles down the wall. Its quite clever!

Receiving votes Driving on the left side, roundabouts instead of stop signs, hardly any Mexican restaurants, and terrible haircuts. Apparently it is cool for a guy to have either a rat tail, Mohawk, and or two different colors of hair. I’m not sure why this is popular here and I don’t think I will change mine anytime soon. I’ll stick with my Larry’s Mug and Brush thank you very much!

Youth Group Service...Dean is standing up talking
Golf Outing...the Wolfpack

My big man's 30th birthday...he would be the one blowing kisses to the camera

Damian and Trigger...all hands on the American

Church then...Basketball game? What is this the NFL?

My pinky finger sucks!
The main floor in the gym. There are 3 more courts, but they bring in bleachers during games.

Kangaroos do exist! I was beginning to think everyone was lying to us!

My golf partner Tony. Guess who took home the trophy at -2

Well we finally got to play our first two games of the season. We ran into a few problems that we had to work around however. Our big guy Damian has been called a restricted player. This is because he played in Ireland for a couple seasons, but for some reason the Australian league called him a foreign player! Which is a joke since he is not only Australian, but he also played in this league for over 200 games. So, what that means is this, each team is only allowed two restricted players to play at a time. Since Marcus and I are both restricted, obviously not all of us can play at the same time. Damian leaves again for Ireland in a few weeks, so when that time comes Marcus and I will both we able to play, but for now we have to trade off and on for the first few games. The first games this weekend were against good point guard teams; therefore I got the nod to play. The first game was up in the hills against Kalamunda. I was laughing when I walked in and made the comment to my coach that the older I get and the higher league I join, the smaller my gyms seem to get! In high school I played in front of a regular crowd of about 3,000+ every single game. 7,000+ at New Castle or Lafayette Jeff, and even around 15,000 at Conseco. In College the conference games would be full, but then you’re only talking about 1,500 to 2,500 people. Even at the NAIA National Tounament you were lucky to get near the 3,000 people mark. Now that I am playing in a professional league, the gyms continue to get smaller ha-ha. The Kalamunda gym seats about 700. There wasn’t too bad of a crowd though, and I think because most of the gyms are small, they will continue to be near full. Coach tells me before the game that since I haven’t officially played since last March (that’s over a year I might add), he would work me into it. I figured ok, I’ll play 7-8 minutes a quarter, which would be perfect. We play 12 minute quarters so I figured that would be just right. The first quarter begins and I felt pretty good. However, 4 minutes into it I am sucking wind! This 24 second shot clock is a BIG difference. A lot of the time I had to hurry across the half court line because its only 8 seconds to cross instead of 10. I would get my breath and then continue. To make things even better, Kalamunda had two very quick 5’7” point guards who rotated in for each other. Finally I got a break, at the 8 minute mark…of the 2nd quarter! As I sat down Marcus was just laughing at me, knowing that I was exhausted. The game did get interesting however. We got up 15 by the first half but they came back and cut it to one with about a minute to go. After some stops and big shots, we ended up winning by 5. The comment coach makes after the game, “Scott you played really good, I’m impressed. 41 minutes is really good for your first game!” 41 minutes haha.

Our 2nd game was at noon the next day on Sunday. Sunday? Come on what is this the NFL? The team we were playing was the defending champs Kalgoolie. They had a really good point guard and their import was a nice big man inside. He was tough! We were up 55-51 at halftime but in the 3rd they went on a nice run. We got down ten late in the 4th but started our comeback. We tied the ball game and had sooooo many opportunities to win! Me and our two other guards had great looks from 3 to go up, and our big guy had some missed free throws…but no one is to blame. We gave up too many points and end the end lost our home opener by 5. It was a learning experience but a lot of fun. It’s a much different game than back home. It is very fast paced but most of the guys are very big. It will take a couple games to get used to playing, but I think it will be a nice fit for both of us. Oh, just so you know, Coach is a liar lol. I did play less minutes the second game, but only by 2. Eighty minutes in two games, I’m gonna need a personal assistant real soon. I’ll be taking applicants this weekend; here are the qualifications:

Must be willing to be in Australia for next 4 ½ months
Must have good massage techniques, and proper health knowledge
Must be willing to come to all road trips, even the ocean
Must have knowledge of cooking and baking (A MUST)
Must be a wise selector of movies for me to watch on off nights
English speaking is preferred
Must be a good rebounder and pocket passer

If you can fit these qualifications, the job is yours! Ha off this week until the game on Saturday. We play the Eastern Suns, who are so-so. Until then, probably doing a lot of snorkeling, zoo, and some golfing. There is a championship golf course that Marcus and I got a part time job at just to play for free honestly. It is unbelievable. Just a tad bit nicer than Magic Hills, but not close! Yea right, this place is big time. Oh and our website is officially up and running. http://www.wolfpackbasketball.com.au/ is where you can find all our team information. Schedule is under fixtures because apparently they do things differently here, go figure! I will leave you with some word differences between us and them. Pretty much take our words and find a way to shorten them haha. Enjoy!

1 Finger down...oh well at least I have 9 more

So most of you probably already know that Marcus and I have been pretty fortunate to stay fairly healthy most of our careers (with the exception of last season). However, the one injury we always seem to get in dislocated fingers and hairline fractures in them. If you have seen my two pinky fingers than you would understand. One of them has no cartilage left in it I think, so it is never straight. It's more of a circle and doesnt seem to want to ever straighten anymore. The other pinky however is a gem. It sorta of looks similar to....oh a pear would be a good description! I'm not kidding this thing is officially the largest finger that I now have. So at practice last Thursday I'm going for a steal and I feel a sharp pain run through my right hand. I continue playing a shoot a layup at the other end. Jumping on defense the guy I was guarding says, "Eh mate, what's wrong with you finger!?" My pinky is once again dislocated to the side. I ran over to coach who instead of setting it back in place turns away as if I had lepracy. Sooo, I put my hand flat on my thigh and press and pull as hard as I could. This was probably the 5th or 6th time this one has been dislocated, but none were more painful for that one to put back in. I buddy taped my fingers and finished practice. Oh yes why not make it number 7. So at practice tonight (Tues) I have my entire pinky taped up so that I cannot bend it. Halfway through deflect a pass and...dislocated through the tape! Why not right? This was was much worse because now our trainer has to somehow get the tape off before I set it back in place. My finger officially doesnt work and has called it quits apparently. Oh well, at least I have 9 more. I am getting it looked at tomorrow but its not keeping me from playing, so no worries.

Sunday was a great day. We had our pre-season golf outing with the entire team and our sponsors. Each of us were partnered up with someone else from our team and we played a scramble so each person hits and then you take the best shot. Now if you have ever golfed with me heres the thing. The first time I play every season I am silky! I mean Pro status baby. However, throughout summer as the season goes on my golf game slides. And badly. So I was very excited about the first go of 2009 to see if the trend would continue. Our assistant happens to be a rep for Calloway, so Marcus and I got to play with some pretty sweet clubs! This def reminded me of the Lancer Camp Open we used to have every summer. On the first tee me and my partner were the second ones off. And everyone was watching. As you can imagine there was zero golf etiquitte at all! Most of the words included, "You sucks...Your American...Jackass!...Look theres a naked woman"...and maybe whistles and shouting. Started off clean on number one. Birdied number two, then kept rollin. By the time we got to number seven my partner goes, "Dude we are 2 under and havent even cheated once!" And he was right, apart from the accasional improving the lie but come on who doesnt do that? On the longest drive whole I decided to put a swing on one and put it about 20 yards past coaches ball, taking home the longest drive prize thank you. Halfway through the round I saw the one thing that I have wanted to see since I got here...Kangaroos! I told the guys that everyone in Australia is a liar and kangaroos dont really exist. Well the course was packed with them! It was so sweet. I got a lot of good pics and even got about 5 feet away and a pic with a couple of them. I will put pics up tomorrow to let you see! My partner and I finished 2 under and took home the trophy! Marcus and his partner were 2nd at +1 but I think they may have cheated more than once lol.

On Monday I got to also do something I have wanted to do since I got here and that was snorkeling. I went down to the coral reef and it was amazing! I cant swim ha so I got some floaties and put them around my ankles to keep me laying flat...I know real athletic huh? Dad was a lifeguard, my twin was a lifeguard, and I suck at water! The colors underwater are unbelievable. The sun ran through the water and hit the ocean floor, lighting up everything! I explored everywhere swimming with hundreds and hundreds of fish. And were not talking gold fish size either. These things were massive! Not sure what they were but they all had huge red mouths, and the bodies of them were rainbow colored. As I came around one of the large rock areas I saw a snake and followed up by swallowing 3 1/2 gallons of salt water. I could not eat salt for the rest of my life and be good. Afterwards I felt more boyant, so maybe it helped ;-) I spent about 45 minutes just exploring different areas of the reef, getting within inches of fish and marine life. It was by far the coolest thing I have done here so far. It is also a little scary because your not sure what you are gonna see. I keep thinking I'm gonna swim right into a group of jelly fish, but thats what is so exciting about it. The feeling of nervousness/danger is so exciting to me. I think tomorrow I am going to deeper and farther out in the ocean to see what I can find.

PS Marcus and I had our first blowup at each other at practice tonight. And if you have ever seen us in practice you would know that about once a month or so we just go off on each other. Mostly because we are angry and other players or something stupid that was going on. Well tonight we started out arguing about something which escalated into WWIII but most players who have played with us know that already. So they just let it happen and then its over. Well after we get done going at each others throats, the entire gym is dead silent. Our girls on the other side of the gym have stopped play, each player on our team looks like they've seen a ghost, and coach cant stop laughing. Needless to say we had a very intense and good practice haha. Oh these guys will learn soon enough. One of the younger players comes over to me halfway through practice and whispers, "Mate, you are scary. You have massive veins that pop out of your neck and arms when you yell. Hell, I was nervous and you werent even talking to me!" Ha I guess I'm not as nice as I thought I was! Post some pics soon! Good Luck Lancers at Nationals! We'll be listening!

HGH? No thanks, I'll pass this time...

Marcus, Natalie, and Myself at Cottlesloe Beach
Cottlesloe Beach

Outdoor Movie Theatre in the park, Real Sweet!

Middle School kids we taught clinics too...They have to wear these ugly hats!

Just over a week before the season begins, and we are both ready to roll. It’s a weird feeling because even though I have played, I have “officially” played a game since Branson last March. Which before I go on, I have to congratulate my Lancers on a great season and making it back to Branson! I think I was more nervous this year than I was last year! It was funny because Marcus and I were glued to the broadcast of the other championship games at 10 in the morning here, yelling at the computer ha-ha. But after all that, we are going back and I know they will do well. So congrats again guys! We have a scrimmage game tonight against one of the other teams, but our visas wont be cleared until this weekend. So unfortunately we are stuck just practicing and sitting out the games. I kind of feel bad two because some of the guards that have to play are young and very inexperienced and they look so nervous! But they are learning so they will be just fine.

Lately we have been doing a lot of exploring and checking out the city. We went to Cottlesloe Beach, which was very cool. Here are some pictures to check it out. We have also spent some time at Natalie’s place, swimming and eating about anything you can possibly BBQ. Nope, having had a kangaroo yet, but they say they are delicious. However, I am starting to think that Australians are a bunch of liars because I haven’t seen one yet! I guess we have to go more inland because they don’t travel that close to the ocean. Hmm…maybe I’ll just go to the zoo.

So random story…I was riding on the train the other day and sat next to a middle aged man. He was listening to his Ipod while I was trying to ready a map of the city. I was trying to see what he was listening too because he kept on laughing to himself. The funny thing was that he kept trying to hide his laughter but couldn’t, and kept giggling like he just stole candy or something. I couldn’t help it, so I started laughing along with him, and I didn’t even know what he was laughing about. This continued for about 20 minutes until he finally got off the train because he was in tears. It was seriously one of those times that you just laugh and you have NO reason to what so ever. Best train ride so far!

Another random story that I thought was funny. I was lifting the other day and have become friends with the guy who is the manager at one of the fitness places here in Perth. We were at the front when I was getting ready to leave just talking and he made the comment, “Hey your little brother is upstairs lifting if you didn’t know.” I was like you mean my twin? He continued to tell me that he thought Marcus was 17 years old…Apparently I am either overweight ha or he is just too skinny. As we continue talking we go into his office and I begin to ask him about some weight supplements and where to find the best kind. He lets me know that the best thing to do is go through him because he can get the cheapest prices. First he pulls out a protein mix and says, “Here is the top protein that you can purchase right now. Runs about 80 bucks a month.” Then he picks up another tub and says, “Here is the best weight controller out at the moment, this is a little bit more expensive but it will help you during the season. I can probably get you a month supply for about 100 bucks or so.” I said alright what else (making it seem like I would actually spend that kind of money for things like this. The next part I was speechless. He continues saying…and I quote, “Now between you and me, if you want to really bulk up, I mean really maximize your full potential then there is this.” He reaches in his gym bag and pulls out a small bottle filled with some type of clear liquid. Confused I asked him what it was. He says, “This is growth hormone. Kinda expensive but it’ll turn you into a horse!” Now, there is no way in the world I’m taking grown hormone but…since I was there I decided to jokingly ask him some questions. I asked him how much it would cost and he tells me that this bottle (which was no bigger than a finger nail polish bottle) cost around 1,300 dollars! I started to choke on my gum because he caught me so off guard. He told me that he would have to get with a few guys but he could have it for me in a couple weeks. Hmm first off I don’t care if I look like Hulk Hogan, I’m not spending 1,300 dollars on anything like that. Secondly, this stuff actually looks like it will actually turn you into a horse…and that can’t be good. I’ll be growing hooves in a month. Also, I’m not exactly sure the League will enjoy there players being on growth hormone. Not sure how they do things here in Aussieland, but back home this stuff isn’t exactly taken very well. I think I’ll stick to drinking milk! Hey, at least I’m bigger than my little brother right? Ha enjoy the pics, chat with you soon!

He just smiled...and gave me a Vegemite sandwich

Sorry it has been a couple days since our last post. We have just been busy...ha ya right. Actually we have just been lazy. First off I wanna say thank you for everyones prayers about my hamstring. I have sat out for two weeks and practiced full go tonight! Everything went well and I felt really good, so thank you. The next thing I want to do is give kind of a shout out to Jerry and his family. Some of you never got a chance to meet Joe (Jerry's dad) but you honestly couldnt imagine a better man. I can remember seeing Uncle Joe at games and everytime you talked to him you couldnt help but smile. The best part about Joe was that no matter what was going on in his life, if he was feeling bad or had other issues, you wouldnt be able to notice. He always had a smile on his face and took close care of his family. What an honor to say that Marcus and I had a chance for him to be a part of our lives! Our prayers go out to you Jerry and Lisa, along with the rest of the family. With all that being said, you can imagine how happy he is now that the pain is gone. Our prayers are with you guys...

Well I woke up this morning and turned on the broadcast...to hear the game. Yes you know the one we are talking about. I have to be honest. I CARE about a LOT of Huntington people. I mean I really do. Between Shives, Sheckler, Eames, Krista, Kock, Kendra, Gower, Mock, Logan, Alyssa, Chase, on and on, I really enjoy a lot of them. But I still have to say...I HATE Huntington lol. I mean I know hate is a strong word, but it seriously may not be strong enough. KJ always had a thing about Bethel, and I know everyone has this thing about Bethel...whatever. For Marc and me, HU is our rival. Which is strange since we both have so many friends that go to school there. I think its all the old timers who sit in the stands and dont have any clue about basketball but think they are all head coaches. Sure every place you go has bad fans, I mean I'm sure there are some Gracies right up there with the best of them. But ahhh losing to HU just puts me in a bad mood! We'll see where the rankings put us now, it might be REAL close whether or not we go to Branson. I hope so though, there really is nothing like the National Tournament in Branson. What an experience!

Alright ending this post I am going to do a top 10, well two top 10's. Things I miss and things I dont miss about home. So sit back, and enjoy. Yeah even you Huntington people too ;-)

THINGS I MISS ABOUT HOME (aka the US in general)

Receiving votes...television. I never watched too much as it is, but I do miss movies. I'm sick of having three channels and they all suck. If anyone needs to know about the cartoon Larry the Lawnmower I can explain in GREAT detail. It sucks, but I find myself watching about 2-3 episodes a day. I'm embarrassed.

Also receiving votes...girls that dont wear there pants/shorts/skirts above their belly buttons. Apparently its cool to wear your pants really really high. Umm yea not sexy...not sexy at all actually. I dont know who decided that it was 1983 in Perth, but they need to change that rule real quick!

10. Driving my car...and driving it on the RIGHT side of the road. Ha today Marcus drive a pickup truck, shifted gears left handed and everything. I was impressed.

9. Being near EVERYTHING. Sure there are a ton of things to do here, I mean there are 2 million plus people. Shopping malls, the beach, movie theatres, and entertainment all over. However everything is spread out about 30 miles. It's kinda crazy.

8. Basketball. I know I know, I'm playing basketball here. But I mean BASKETBALL! March madness is coming up and there is nothing like it. All these Aussies do is talk about cricket and rugby!

7. American sports in general! Seriously, I would probably even go for watching a soccer game at the moment. Ok maybe not that extreme but I need some baseball, football, and basketball in my life. Not cricket, rugby, and Aussie rules football (better known as smear the queer for lack of a better word).

6. American conversations. Its amazing how much you miss having a conversation with someone that actually knows what you are talking about. Sure there are similar things here, but you get the idea.

5. Variety of restaurants. There are a ton of different places to eat here, but a LOT of cafe's. I'm sure I havent found the best places yet so this will probably change at some point.

4. Paying 5 bucks or less for a meal! If I spend under 10 dollars I have got myself a deal. Everything here is expensive...from food to clothes. For example, I ate subway today. A footlong meal cost me 13 dollars. No 5 dollar footlongs here baby!

3. The comfortableness of knowing where I'm at. I decided to go down town yesterday because I really wanted to go to the library. As I walk in to the so call library (Ahmed the security guard told me it was this big building...apparently Ahmed didnt graduate primary schools because someone doesnt know North from South) I noticed that it was def NOT the library. It was museum that was closed. And somehow I MacGyvered my way into the locked building where I was about arrested and charged with breaking and entering. Thanks Ahmed! Real cool.

2. My friends. I dont exactly miss home but I miss my friends like craaaaaazy. Its nuts because you dont realize how important these things are until you dont have them at your side. I miss all of them like you wouldnt believe and I cant wait to see there faces in 6 months!

1. My family. Its tough being away but I know that God has us here for a reason. We think about our family a lot...and its tough when you can be there for things like what happened to Joe. You almost feel useless...But soon enough! No worries mom :-)

THINGS I DO NOT MISS ABOUT HOME

10. Working...ha. No not working, but I wouldnt have the chance to play basketball as a profession if I was home. Not exactly what you would call NBA material so, the international basketball is fine with me!

9. The cold. It was cold here the other day...it was 78. Yes 78 is freezing. I laughed at a bunch of ladies in think sweaters walking along the beach. I'm sittin here sun bathing and it feels like winter to them haha.

8. The snow. This goes along with the cold but snow is boring after Christmas and New years. Just bring on spring already.

7. People who are rude. Seriously, everyone is nice here. I feel like it is a huge Grace College. No one is angry. I think Americans need to come take vacations here and check out Perth. People are almost too nice.

6. Paying for healthcare. Its sweet over here. The team will take care of us if we get hurt, and there seem to be no extra costs. Go figure first time I get sick or hurt I'll probably be sent home on a boat. Lets hope not!

5 thru 2. The business. Everyone is go go go, and I felt like the last 4 months in Bloomington I was on such a tight schedule to get everything in. It's almost like I didnt even have time for myself. I remember in Bloomington I was pumped when I was able to rent a movie and just sit down alone in my apartment to watch it. I was ALWAYS working, lifting, running, with friends, going out, on and on. My Christian walk has been the best it has been in a while here, and that is because I make that a priority instead of those other things.

1. My cell phone. Ha I know, terrible number one right? Ok I miss the simple things like getting a text from a friend, or being able to just pick up the phone and make a call to anyone. But it has almost become a necessity for us to carry around our cell phones. It's like we are naked without them. Seriously, leave your phone at home one day and see if you actually can go throughout the entire day and not seriously wish you had it with you. I have been forced to live without it and I really dont miss it that much!

Alright this is long enough (thats what she said!) ha, I am the funniest person I know. Time to bounce though, hope everyone is doing well and miss you guys! Outdoor movie theatre tomorrow! Marley and Me, I heard it was a good one. And yes I'm actually bringing friends this time haha!

Pilot and Lancers Unite? Can it be possible?

So today was an interesting day to say the least. We scheduled our weekend plans and got set. Coach called and said that everything with the team is a go, now just finalizing paperwork. Sunday we have a camp that we have to put on for about 75 younger kids, then scrimmage afterward. After lunch today we got a long expected visitor. Natalie Young (former Bethel Pilot standout) came to our place today. She plays for Lakeside which is another team in the same league that we are in. She arrived a couple days after we did, but she hadnt even seen the ocean yet. So we decided we would take her. Conversations were really easy and we had a blast. She is absolutely hilarious and I'm not sure why we havent met before. She graduated with IWU forward Landon Adler at Adam Central, who played with Marcus and I in China. The weather today was HOT as you can probably imagine (100 degrees) for the 2nd straight day. Unfortunately I got burned so sleeping might not be easy tonight. As we are getting to the beach Marcus and Natalie go and get a spot while I went to change. Before I walk in I got attacked by a huge spider web. Stepping back and moving the web out of my face I look up...I was staring in the face of the BIGGEST spider I have ever seen. And this is by no way an exaggeration. It was probably about 4-5 inches from head to rear, and was camo looking with white and black spots. Just like the stingray, my body was jumping faster than when dad saw Jaws in movie theatres!

After the beach and waves, we bounced and decided to check out Natalies place. The family she is staying with has an AWESOME house. She lives in the pool house where you can play ping pong, pool, video game it, or go outside for a quick swim. Plus they have a half court basketball area which is really nice. The family has two kids...a 16 yr old boy and a 13 year old girl. I really dont remember their names so I made up a name for both of them and called them by it the rest of the night. I called the boy Dougie because he reminded me of the character off 50 First Dates. He is only 16 and I think he takes steroids. Plus he talks like that guy on the movie, crackin me up. He had a dance last night and came back at like 2 am drunk apparentally. Hmm? I guess this drinking thing is NOT a big deal here like it is in the states. Kind of sad actually. Anyway, I called the girl Alyce just because I like that name. I think her real name is Megan though. They are great though. I tought Dougie a few things about baseball and showed him how to throw a curveball. His is actually a lot better than mine now! He then decided to show me how to play cricket. You stand back and throw it to a batter just like in baseball, only difference is that you bounce the ball...then hit it. And you can hit it in any direction. Plus you score like 200-300 runs a game. Yeah real strange right? So the first pitch he throws, that little punk says, "I'll show you the bounce curve first." Bounce curve my ace! Damn thing hit me in the shin! I dropped immediately! After telling myself I wasnt going to go out by a 16 year old, I shook it off and put a DISPLAY on his butt! Bounce or no bounce, I was putting this cricket ball outta the yard! For all of those who were wondering, cricket is the worst game ever invented. And it can last 5 days. No...I'm serious. Matches can actually last 5 days long! I'd rather go out to a nice sit down breakfast with Coach Paul Patterson...ok maybe not haha.

After whoopin up on 16 yards olds (mom would be so proud) the kids decided they wanted to take us squid fishing! A little skeptical at first we arrived at a pier about 10 oclock at night. To my surprise the pier was packed out, probably around 100 people fishing. We didnt catch anything but it was easily the coolest thing we have done so far. A neat experience...and no worries, Natalie took plenty of pictures so I'll be sure to put them up for everyone. Well it's getting late and I'm gonna crash.

P.S. the guy import on Natalie's Lakeside mens team got in his car, and crashed it RIGHT AWAY! Driving on the left side of the road isnt as easy as it sounds! Ok so a friend of mine told me a joke...and it is terrible ha but sorta funny. What did the gardener name his two sons? Jose and Hose B. Haha peace!

Water so clear you can see to the bottom...hundred thousand dollar cars AINT nobody got 'em!

The Indian Restaurant
Driving on the WRONG side of the road haha. Sorry I mean other side!

The famous Bell Tower, with the Swan Bells inside. Not that interesting haha.

View from the River Walkway.

Why is this picture sideways!!! A good look of the city, sideways! lol

So of you may have heared the title of this post from Will Smith's song Miami. Only his goes, "water so clear you can see to the bottom, hundred thousand dollar cars everybody got 'em." This place is somewhat funny because it is a "rich area" because of the mining and ocean area. But everyone drives camry's and pedophile vans haha. I'm waiting for someone in a white van to roll down their window and as me if I want some candy! For as nice as the houses are and stuff you would think people would be driving mercedes, jags, and bmw's but I guess they dont care about that. Yesterday was more than eventful. Here's what took place...

10 AM
I wake up (a little before this actually) to another beautiful day of sunshine. And ANOTHER day of Marcus and Julia talking on the computer! I'm starting to realize that it's a good thing we didnt get a phone for overseas, otherwise they would both be broke! Or at least both sets of paretns would be. As much as I love sitting there listening too, "haha ur so cute...no, you are! haha you stop it. I miss you...aww but not as much as I miss you. (giggle) You complete me (finger pointed at the computer then to the heart)" I decided to take this party elsewhere. What do you know, beach time!
11 AM
Decided to go for a swim and read a book. This seems to be feeling more like a 7 month vacation everyday hha. I went on a short jog to the ocean and found a spot between two coral areas. The cool thing was I was the only one in the area, so I decided to lay out completely naked to get rid of any tan lines...haha yeah right. Just kidding. I spent some time reading "The Shack" that my buddy Mikey gave me. What a good book. If you havent read it I recommend it. I am about halfway through and I will probably finish it in a couple days because it's so interesting. A man's little girl is taken on a family vacation and brutally murdered in a shack in the Oregon wilderness. However years later he gets a "note" from God that brings him back to the place where all his nightmares are. I am about halfway through but it is an interesting book on faith and dealing with tragedy. After reading a chapter or two I decided to work my hamstring out in the water. The water is sooo clear, well you can see to the bottom. I found myself chasing after small fish underneath me. Out of the corner of my eye I saw a group of a ton of bigger fish! As I approached within about 3 or 4 feet from them, the sand shifted and the area took off. They werent a lot of fish at all, it was one BIG one. A stingray to be exact. He glided away as I saw his tail follow behind. No I didnt not watch in amazement. Lets just say Michael Phelps might have lost in a swimming contest this day! I was back on the sand in about 7 seconds! I almost pissed in my board shorts! Oh well, at least I havent encountered Jelly Fish yet!

3 PM Some of the people picked us from the church and took us downtown in the city. I got to take a lot of cool pictures and will add them as much as I can. We needed to get a new phone while we are here so we thought today would be the day. Seeing as, we dont have practice...hmm imagine that! We went to the outdoor mall which was sweet. After that we walked to the river and saw the best sight in Perth! The river walkway is unbelievable. Everything is so clean and nice. They have a large ferris wheel that sits on the river to overlook the city area. They are also setting up for the arts festival that is a big deal here in the city. They have independent movies, and a lot of artistic world from all over the world. Nikki would be in heaven here. I actually went to a movie where you sit on the grass. It is like a drive in theatre but without the cars. And yes I did go by myself because I have lots of friends and apparently am very interesting :-/ haha. But it was a cool experience. If you have seen the Wedding Planner, it was a lot like the movie they watch in the park. We got to see "The Bell Tower" which is nothing special but it is supposed to be a big deal here. I think the bells are from London and they show the connection of Australia with England. I honestly could be making that up but hey that's what will make me a great teacher! It's not what you know, its how well you can convince your kids to believe what you are saying! haha That's terrible and not true. Hopefully Dr. Gaerte isnt reading this blog lol. We then visited a sweet place. It was an Indian restaurant named Annalakshmi. It's a vegatarian place that sits on the river. The catch is that you pay them whatever you feel the meal should cost. They ask for at least a 1 dollar donation but the rest is up to you! How cool is that! Needless to say guess where we ate? Ha nope we ate at McDonalds! Shoot vegatarian? Good one! But I'll try it soon enough!
7PM
Marcus went home to chat with his better half, and I decided to pub it with some of the people. I always enjoy meeting new people and drinking is almost like a cultural thing here, a lot like Europe might be. The age limit is 18 and it's not uncommon for most of the kids to start earlier than that. It's a lot different here tho. It seems to be MUCH more casual than party scene. However, talk about expensive! Wow, I got a pint of beer and it cost me 9 dollars, my identification, my left hand, 3 toes, and an internal organ of my choosing. I gave one of my kidneys because they arent good anyway haha. Seriously tho, 9 dollars for uno drink. Probably will stick to water and juice most of the time here!

10PM
This is my favorite time of the day. I usually walk down to the beach and just relax, listening to the waves and watching the moonlight bounce off the coral rocks and sand. It's the most relaxed I have been in a long long time. It is probably the place where I feel the closest to God as well. Tonight my prayers went out to a few people in general. First off to Jerry and his parents. I know they are having a tough time and it's not easy to experience that. I know how hard dad took it when Gramps Moore passed away. Another prayer went out to the Slavicek family and Conner and Kennedy's Grandpa. He is a good man and I pray that everything will turn out ok. I also pray for my teammates. No...not my wolves, but My "teammates!" I pray for Kais, Gaff, Mike, KJ, Winks, Eaks, Swanny, Plums, Hughie, Briggs, Sheck, Shives, Drake, and on and on. I miss those guys a lot and basketball isnt the same without THEM. Alright I suppose I will wrap this up. I pray quite a bit but dont have enough space to share them all! Miss everyone more than you can imagine.

P.S. I realized that even though I live in Australia, I'm American baby! And I dont feel that's changing anytime soon! By the way, what do you call two guys hanging out on the wall? Kurt & Rod haha. I need to find a new joke. Later
